How come the computer screen on my monitor does not take up the entire monitor after reinstalling Vista?

by on September 11, 2010

Q: I use a JVC TV as my monitor (23 inch) It has worked fine until I flattened my PC and reinstalled with my recovery disc. Only a quarter of the monitor page shows. The rest is black. When I switch to TV, the monitor page is fine and full page. I use Vista. How can I restore full page?

It sounds like your video driver is not installed correctly. If you go into device manager (Right Click on My Computer -> Manage -> click on device manager on the left hand side) Does it show that all of your device drivers are installed? There may be a yellow question mark next to your video adapter device. If this is not the case please let me know.

Sady I cannot go into anything as only the bottom of the page shows. When I click on START only a couple of progs show

have you tried to boot the computer in safe mode? If not try to start it in safe mode, Press F8 after you power your computer on and just before the window screen comes up. This will give you a few options. Choose “safe mode with networking”. Also, have you tried any different monitors?

Yes tried both of those to no avail. Clearly the fault is with the monitor as the pc is o k when attached to my laptop. I must have tripped something at the same time as reinstalling. I have spent hours trying everthing I know (and my friends know ) but no luck. When I go out of ,PC, and into ,TV, the picture is fine.

Is there any resolution adjustment settings that you can change when the PC/Laptop is plugged into the TV?
Do you have the exact model of the TV? I can try to find some documentation on the device to further troubleshoot.
