How do I find the password to my laptop?

by on September 27, 2010

Q: I need to find my password for my laptop. I haven’t used it in about 7 months and now need it for work. Yes it is for work purposes only. It runs on Windows Vista. If you have any suggestions they would be greatly welcome since I really don’t want to go to my tech dept.

There are some password reset utilities out on the inernet that might be able to help you with this but you should be somewhat computer savvy to use these. Is the laptop a company laptop or is it your own personal one? This also depends on if the account that your trying to log into is a local computer account or a domain account. You may be better off bringing this to the tech dept. if service is free.

I agree with Fletcha, your level of success would depend a lot on what the laptop is authenticating with.

If this is a work laptop, and this security was setup by your employer your probably not going to be able to get around it. You’ll need to talk to your tech department for assistance.

It was for one business use. Now another company. It was not set up by my previous employer just myself. Should of made a password reset disk but never thought of it.
