Is there anyway to make it so design files cannot be copied more than a few times?
by Nicci on October 1, 2010Q: Machine embroidery designs have to be copied to a USB or whatever medium the embroidery machine uses, is there any way of preventing the files from being copied more than say, twice?

There isn’t, and as far as a computer is concerned reading is the same as copying so there isn’t a good way to even begin to implement this kind of thing. They could always make a copy of your copy before even plugging it into the machine.
It’s very difficult to have “some” access to a file. All or nothing is very easy to do, however once someone has a file they can do anything they want with it.
The best protection with proprietary data is a legal one, so consult your lawyer on how to best protect your business interests.
