Yes, teamviewer is a very nice program, (very well reviewed) for many kinds of remote access situations.
There are a lot of programs that do remote access, and they all work a little bit different.

You’ll need to be more descriptive in what exactly you’re looking to do. “Sharing data” can mean a lot of different things.
Teamviewer is free for private/non-commercial use, so I suggest you install it and see if it meets your needs.
If it doesn’t, tell me what you don’t like about it, your budget and exactly what it is you want to be able to do and I’ll suggest some other options.
