Q: I got this error message on my PC “error loading c:\windows\wftadfi16_080816a.dll”. What should I do?
“wftadfi16_080816a.dll” was part of a trojan that was probably deleted by your anti-virus software.
You’re getting an error message still because windows still things it should load that .dll file and can’t find it now.
I’d suggest the following:
1. Do a full scan of your pc with your up-to-date anti-virus/anti-malware software. I always suggest Microsoft Security Essentials if you want to switch.
2. Do a second scan with http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
3. Downoad and run Hijack this: http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
Hijack this will give you a big list of stuff with checkboxes, this list is just a list of stuff running on your computer, NOT viruses, etc. You should have a line like:
O4 – HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [minitnyus] C:\WINDOWS\system32\inf\svchosd.exe C:\WINDOWS\wftadfi16_080816a.dll
Use Hijack this to delete that entry, and ONLY that entry. Changing anything else will probably cause problems.
Additionally, you should change your passwords to any important websites as there is a possibility that some of those passwords may have been stolen by the trojan when it was on your computer.
