How come my sidebar gadgets will not work after removing a trojan?
by Paulbc on November 1, 2010Q: I’m having an odd problem with my Windows 7 Sidebar. I recently had a trojan virus that I was able to delete successfully from my computer, but now I can’t do anything with my sidebar. When I click on one of the gadgets to bring it up, all I get is a little white box. I’ve tried deleting all the gadgets and reinstalling them, but to no avail. Any ideas?
You may check if you face the same issue in different user account or new administrator account. You may create a new user account on your computer and then check.
Create a new user account-

If you do not face the same issue in a new user account then you may refer the below link and use the steps provided to fix a corrupted user profile –

Thanks for the info. Luckily, everything came back when I loaded a restore point. Still not exactly sure what happened, but I’ll make a note of the above article if it should happen again…

Great. Just to be safe you might want to run a full anti-virus scan on your computer, just to make sure that the restore point doesn’t have the infection!

That’s an excellent idea. I found the original virus files with Malwarebytes, so I think I try that again. Funny though, that when it first installed it wasn’t found by my McAfee..
Anyway, thanks again.
