Why do I get CreateDevice Failed when trying to play files in Windows Media Player?

by on December 1, 2010

Q: I get the error:

error creating dx9 allocation presenter:
CreateDevice Failed
d3derr_notavailable

when I open a file in Windows 7 using Media Player Classic. After I click “ok” the error disappears and the file plays. How can I remove or fix this error?

That is probably a bug in Media Player Classic.

Make sure you’re running the latest version of Media Player Classic: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

Also, make sure your directx is fully up to date: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3
