Why does my laptop connect to the wireless network in one room but not another?

by on December 15, 2010

Q: My laptop connects to my wireless router when it is in the same room, when I move the laptop into another room the signal is poor and 99% of the time will not connect to the router? Why is this?

Whatever the walls are made of is probably blocking a lot of your signal, or something else is causing some interference.

You can try changing the wireless channel via your router’s web interface to see if that helps. Can also try moving your router to a more central location.
