Unfortunately you won’t be able to access the computer that way.

Without any special tracking or anti-theft software already installed on your laptop you don’t have a lot of options.

Your only real shot at getting it is if the thief accesses your google or facebook account. Both of these sites allow you to see the most recent IP addresses that have logged into your accounts.
Clicking the Details link next to the Last account activity line at the bottom of any Gmail page shows information about recent activity in your mail.
For Facebook: You can get a list of the sessions that are currently logged in to your account. From the Account menu in the upper right corner choose Account Settings, then click the Account Security change link. This shows the current logins, including IP address if you hover over the location, and will even allow you to log out other sessions. However, if the other session has logged out then it does not appear.

If you do manage to find a suspicious IP address listed you’ll need to provide that to local law enforcement. There isn’t anything you can do with the IP address yourself to get the physical location of the computer.

This will not help you now but in the future to allow for the ability to track a stolen computer device you should check out http://www.preyproject.com. I’ve used it in the past and it seems to be a pretty good application. Good Luck!
