How do I get my older laptop to work with my new wireless N router?

by on December 29, 2010

Q: Need help getting older laptop to recognize new wireless router. HP model NC6220, with network card Intel 2200G/B, cannot find home wireless network using Netgear Wireless-N 150 router. Other laptops work just fine with new wireless router. Does HP laptop need updated to find “N” network? I have router set to mixed b/g/n mode.

With the mixed mode turned on you should be fine. No updates or anything would be required.

Try putting the laptop near the wireless router if you haven’t done so already and confirm that it isn’t a signal strength issue. Also double check that the wireless is turned on ( the Wireless LED on the laptop should be lit up, item #3 on this photo: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12130_na/12130_na.html)

Other then that all I can suggest is checking if the laptop will still work with other wireless connections.
