I’m guessing this is a laptop, and it strikes me as a hardware problem with the laptop. Your best option here is going to be to contact the laptop manufacturer for repair options.

If you want to do your own troubleshooting on this, you can try launching an Ubuntu Live CD: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

This would launch a different operating system on your laptop without touching your existing Windows install. If you experience the same problems in Ubuntu, then it’s a hardware problem for sure and you’ll need to look into a repair from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. But no it’s a desktop computer. I’m running windows XP. My Linksy’s router is connected to the main computer which is in my father’s room and I’m connected wirelessly from my room. I have a D-Link wireless receiver.

What is the model of this D-Link wireless receiver?

What is the make and model of your computer?

What USB plugs are you using? Does it make a difference if you use front system USB plugs or the ones on the back of the computer?

What other devices are plugged into the USB ports?

Have you always had this problem since you started using the wireless receiver? If not any guesses on what changed?

      Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter.

HP Compaq d530 Convertible Minitower Desktop PC

Regular USB wire in front but it don’t matter if it’s in the back either.

No other devices but the usb receiver.

and yeah pretty much i’ve had this problem every time I connect either an ipod touch which has wifi also and now it’s doing it with my Playstation Portable

    Picked as best answer

Its looks like there are a lot of people having a problem running that wireless adapter. Assuming it’s past warranty, I’d suggest replacing it.

For best results I’d suggest going with a PCI Wireless Card that gets installed inside your computer. They are cheap and run great, you’ll probably get better results over all: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=pci+wireless+card
