Why does music on my computer sound like chipmunks?

by on December 31, 2010

Q: My comp’s sound, when playing music for example, comes out like chipmunks.

Recently I took just her comp away by itself for a day, and this occured after I brought it back/reconnected it. But she cant say when the last time is she played music, so with nothing else having happened to anything between this gap (comp wasn’t damaged with my using it), what could be causing this?

checked all equalizers, thinking those settings might be generating this, but no.

Could it be the speakers? nothing was done to them, but I’ve exhausted the avenues open to me through control panels. I dunno.

  1.

Check your control panel for another vendor specific audio control panel. Possibly Realtek, in there there might be a ‘sound effect’ tab or similiar see if turning that off does the trick.

Also, try a different audio player such as VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If not I’ll need some more details about the computer. Specifically the make and model of the computer, and the model info of the sound card/chip.
