Would it be worth the trouble to move from my old computer to a refurbished computer?

by on January 7, 2011

Q: All of the computers in our home office are old! Mine is a HP Pavilion with a Pentium 4 CPU 2.4GHz, and a 69.4 GB hard drive, and xp home edition. I have found a refurbished HP DC7600 with a Pentium 4 – 3.0 GHz, 40 GB hard drive and XP pro. My question is whether it would be worth the trouble to switch to the new one? I have an external hard drive and don’t have a lot of programs that I use. My husband’s computer is worse than mine and if it’s not a good idea for me I know it would help him. Thoughts?

That really isn’t much of an upgrade at all, and I wouldn’t expect you to see much of a difference. You’re much better off saving your money for a modern desktop system running Windows 7, which starts out at around $450. If you’re short on cash the refurb offers from Dell & HP’s websites on current year machines can get you some nice deals.
