How do I recover my pictures after doing a system recovery?

Q: I did a system recovery on my Windows XP. Most everything is lost. Pictures,music etc. How can I do a system restore to a date prior to the system recovery.

    If you did a full system recovery, this normally wipes your main drive completely.

    Assuming you’ve never backed up your photos or anything you’re probably out of luck. You can try running Recuva on the computer to see if you can find anything: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

    For a second opinion take the computer to a local computer shop for an assessment. The more the computer is used the less likely you’ll be abe to recover any data.

    In the future, back up your data. It’s only a question of when, not if, a hard drive will fail.

    I suggest Crashplan: http://b2.crashplan.com/ either using their on-line service or paired with an external drive.
