Do I need an antivirus program to go along with Microsoft Security Essentials?

You can use this as your only antivirus program but it is always safer to have a second.
There are some great comparison articles in the links below comparing free antivirus and paid antivirus. The highest rated free antivirus seems to be avast.
Personally I use Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.
