Does going from https to http make your browsing insecure?

by on February 1, 2011

Q: I have a question that deals with security. The question points to like most mail sites like yahoo logs in user using https but once logged in the status changes to http?

Does the conversion from https to http makes the conversation with the server insecure?

With email it really doesn’t matter that you’re switched to http. Regardless of how you are connected to your webmail site, Email is basically a post card, and once you hit send it bounces around the Internet unencrypted and probably gets left on a few different servers along the way.

Note that gmail does have an always use HTTPS option you can turn on.
