How come my USB ports stopped working after upgrading my Toshiba Satellite A205-5855 to Windows 7?

by on February 2, 2011

Q: The USB ports are not working on my Toshiba Satellite A205-5855 (PSAE3U) which has been upgraded to Windows 7 (32-bit). I updated the BIOS and that didn’t seem to work. I just recently fixed an SD card reader problem that had arisen at the same time as the USB port problem. I have scoured the Toshiba site for any information on this issue and I’m about to pull my hair out.

If you go to the Toshiba support page you can download drivers for your laptop for windows 7.

    Follow this link: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=1998596&rpn=PSAE3U&modelFilter=A205-S5855&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663

By default Windows 7 installs its own drivers but downloading and installing the drivers from the manufacturer usually lead to better hardware support.

I would download the Chipset drivers for sure but you may also want to download and install the other drivers as well.

To install click the driver you want to download and save to your local computer.
Then click the executable that you downloaded and install it.
When finished it may require a reboot.

Let me know if you are still having problems

If you go into Windows Device Manager are their any items listed with yellow question marks, yellow exclamation points or red X’s ?

          No.

I think I’ve resigned to the idea that this something that needs to be repaired on the inside.
