What upgrades can I do to my computer for under $100.00?

by on February 3, 2011

Q: I currently have an asus essentio cg5275. (heres the link for specs: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/asus-essentio-cg5275-ar003/4507-3118_7-33964723.html ). I was wondering how I could upgrade this computer some? I’m looking to spend around $100 and I wanna throw it in to upgrade this monster along with possibly a smaller tower case.

Looks like a pretty nice setup. If you’re interested in gaming I’d suggest a video card upgrade, otherwise I wouldn’t really change anything.

Note that if you did do the video card upgrade and wanted to do PC gaming, I’d suggest a $200 card like a Radeon HD 6850. For double the price you get triple the performance.

See this page if you want to compare video card performance: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

If you don’t care about gaming, then I’d just save my pennies.

It looks like you have a pretty nice computer setup already. If you are looking to upgrade going to a smaller case would prove to be more difficult to fit everything into the case. (Not always true though)

For under a $100 i would say upgrades you would be looking at are upgrading the memory instead of having 8 maybe put in another 2 to 4gb to have a total of 10 to 12gb of ram.

Another option would be to upgrade your video card. It would end up being a mid range card, possibly a instant rebate if you shop around.

Lastly You may want to spend it on purchasing a smaller case like you mentioned and just run with the hardware you have as it is already a fairly loaded setup.

If you need help picking out any of the above options please let me know.
