Without any more context, all this means is that there is some type of standard in place with regard to an item or process.

ANSI is The American National Standards Institute. They are a a private non-profit organization that oversees the development of voluntary consensus standards for products, services, processes, systems, and personnel in the United States. The organization also coordinates U.S. standards with international standards so that American products can be used worldwide. For example, standards make sure that people who own cameras can find the film they need for that camera anywhere around the globe.

If you’re looking at a specific item, or comparing some different items with various ANSI grades, you can post those as a question and we can provide some more information.
