How come I cannot use my laptop on my network when my desktop is connected?

by on February 14, 2011

Q: My desktop and laptop computers are networked.
While my desktop is connected to the internet, my laptop is not.
Any suggestions as to how to solve this solution easily. I am an “older” user, so I need simple terms used, please.
I run XP on my desktop, whereas my laptop runs Windows 7 (This has the problem)
I’d certainly appreciate any help at all.
Thanks

  1.

I’ll need some more details before I can provide any ideas.

    – Have you ever been able to have both connected at the same time?
    – Can you provide the make and model information for all of your network equipment? (Router, modems, etc)
    – How does each computer connect to the router, wired or wireless?
-Have you tried a wired connection for both computers at the same time?
