Q: How can I retrieve the HTML code for a smartart graphic created in Office 07 in order that I can use it on a website? Is there another simple and free way of building a similar component which can be but on a site?

Save the word document as a .htm file. In addition to creating an htm file, this will also create a sub folder called _files

Open that sub folder and you’ll find a series of image files. Pick the one for your smart art graphic and use the image for your website.

There isn’t any HTML that you can pull out to have automatic moving parts. You’d need to use something totally different than Smartart for dynamic web images.

As far as what you’d need to use would depend on what it is exactly you want to be able to do. For example, is this an org chart of some kind where you want the ability to edit it on the web without re-uploading the image.

So if you can provide your full use case, I might be able to offer some suggestions.

Thanks, I basically want a central shape containing text with radial shapes containing pictures and text. Ideally i wpuld have animated it but if that’s too complex I’ll leave it as an image. I’m using a Google site.

    Picked as best answer

You’re main options would be to either do something in HTML5 or Adobe Flash. Flash would cost you a good bit of cash, and you’d need to do the HTML5 stuff by hand. So there really isn’t going to be an easy option for you.

I’d suggest leaving it as an image.

Ok well that’s a shame but I appreciate your input. Thanks.
