Q: I have a Dell Laptop with Nvidia 8600 graphics and a ASUS Desktop w GTX 460 both running W7. I am having trouble using my laptop screen as the extended desktop from my ASUS using either VGA or HDMI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your laptop’s screen isn’t designed to accept external video input. the VGA and HDMI plugs on the back of the laptop are “Video Output” for connecting the laptop to an external monitor.

So you can use your deskstop LCD screen as an extended desktop for your laptop, but not the other way around.
