Are there any upgrades I can do to my Acer Aspire to make it run CAD sofware better?

by on March 17, 2011

Q: I work on CAD and modeling softwares extensively. I own a laptop {acer aspire 5920, core2duo 1.66, 2gb ram expandable upto 4gb, 160gb hdd, intel media accelerator, and windows 7 ultimate 32bit}. Is there some way i could upgrade something to enhance graphical performance??? I’m not really a hardware geek, but i can let you know any extra information you might need about the hardware. Softwares i use are photoshop, autodesk AutoCad, Google sketchup. Also, whats the use of PCI express slot? I have one.

The first and best upgrade would be memory. I would put another 2 gb into so you have a total of 4gb. You can probably get 2 x 2GB sticks for about $50-100.

If you really wanted to drop the money you could also invest in a solid state drive. They can get expensive really quickly and i do not know if the speed boost is worth the cost at this point in time.

I am not sure about upgrading it graphically as it is a laptop and might require you to disassemble your laptop completely.

The PCI expansion slot is used to put expansion devices in like wifi card or memory card reader, various other devices.
