How can I remove Windows Vista to free up hard drive space after installing Windows 7?
by ssa5761 on April 6, 2011Q: I upgraded Windows Vista to Windows 7 pro but forgot to format my c drive. Now all my hard disk space is used up is there anything I can do to get Vista off my computer?

The only safe way to get the remnants of your Vista install off the computer would be to do the hard drive format and then a fresh Windows 7 install. You’ll also wind up with the most available free harddrive space this way.

i went to my computer and tried to format the c drive and the system tells me i cannot format it and if i cant do that then i cant get all the old files off. i dont no what else to do.

First, if there is any data you need to retain, make sure you back it up to another device.
Next to format the C: Drive you’ll need to do this from within the Windows 7 installer program. So reboot your computer with the Windows 7 install disk inserted and follow the on screen instructions.
