How come the battery in my laptop will not drop after being dropped off the bed?

by on April 30, 2011

Q: I have a toshiba satellite c655 that got dropped off a bed onto a tile floor about 3ft. The problem im having is that when I plug in charger it wont charge battery, but if I charge battery in another computer and put battery back in it runs the computer. I took apart computer to check plug and there is no visible damage to plug, wires or charging pin. Any idea what the problem could be?

IT sounds like there may have been some form of damage. A connection came loose maybe, or even a resistor is bad. If the battery is charging in another laptop and not the one it came from then chances are its damaged.

Just for the sake of trying what if you put a battery from another laptop into your laptop will that battery charge?

If it is still under warranty you can probably have it fixed.

Thanks for the comment. No its not under warranty, so im probally screwed huh? Checked all connections when I took it apart. Everything was cool. Do u think resistor? Can that be repaired and do u think it would be expensive, or will i probally have to replace mobo? And thought bout battery thing but dont have another to try,do u think it would be worth trying to buy new battery. Please let me know your thoughts.

Without running tests on the laptop it’s difficult to identify the exact problem. I suggest calling up any local well reviewed computer shops to see if anyone will take a look at it and give you a repair estimate.

Looks like this laptop appears to be selling new for only $350, so unless you get very luck and it turns out to be a simple fix/part replacement it will probably be more money than you’d probably want to spend on the laptop.
