Q: Why does shutting down your computer improperly cause damage to your hard drive, software and data on your computer and what type damage does it cause?

    Mainly what is happening when you improperly shut down your computer is you are ending all programs that may be in the middle of writing data. If that happens files, folders, or even your whole OS can become corrupt.

    One of the times I tend to see this most is with email. If you are using outlook and you do not perform a proper shut down it corrupts your PST file storing all your mail.

    But this can happen to any program, game, or other application running when it is forced to shut down.
