Is there an inexpensive tablet that will do internet, pogo games, and WiFi?
by a031736 on May 13, 2011Q: Looking for a recommendation – I want to get my mom (in her 80’s) an inexpensive but durable touch screen tablet. She basically uses a computer for email, facebook, solitaire, and something called online pogo games. It doesn’t need phone or non WiFi service (i.e. not looking for something that requires a contract and monthly payments). Would like to stay below $150.

Below $150 you aren’t going to find anything unless you get very lucky with a deal on something used on craigslist.
Even an Amazon Kindle, which is just a simple e-book reader is $139.
I think your best option for her would be an Apple iPad. Very easy to use and very nicely made. Apple is currently selling their iPad 2 at retail for $500. You might be able find a used iPad 1 around for a decent bit less. I’d suggest keeping an eye on craigslist.
Your only limitation would be that the games on pogo.com might not work, however the Apple App store has a lot of similar if not identical games available for free or a buck or two.
