Can I load a free version of XP mode if I only have Windows 7 home premium?

You have to have Windows 7 Premium 32 or 64 bit or higher. Still depending on the specs of your computer it may not work.

This is the link to the Microsoft site for XP mode.
I have it installed on a 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate Machine and have not had any problems with it. Runs great.
If you have any more questions please let me know.

XP Mode will not work for Home Premium even if you download the software. If you try to install the software you’ll get an error.
If you happen to have a Windows XP CD around (or pick one up for a few bucks somewhere) you can still setup a virtual instance of Windows XP using VMware player.
This site has some instructions to walk you through that if you’re interested: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/11060/create-an-xp-mode-for-windows7-home-versions-and-vista/
