Can I run software written for SPARC on a x86 machine?

by on May 30, 2011

Q: My old Sun SPARC machine that used to run Sun Solaris 7 or 8 has just gone down. Is there any way that I can run the software I used on SPARC, on my current x86 architecture.

(That software has No x86 equivalent).

If you have the source code and you know what you’re doing, you should be able to recompile the code to x86 platform.

Otherwise you might want to try http://wiki.qemu.org it looks like some people have had some level of success with that, though don’t expect it to be an easy process.
