How come my window opens small every time now that I made it smaller once?

by on July 1, 2011

Q: I made one of my windows smaller by sliding the right margin over so the window was only 1/3 the size of the screen. This was a few days ago. Ever since then every time I open a window from a link, it comes up in the reduced size. I haven’t figured out how to get rid of that reduction. Please help. I hate having the new window opening up 1/3 the size it should be.

I’m guessing this is for your web browser so do the following.

    1. Close ALL open windows.
    2. Launch the program giving you trouble
    3. Drag that right margin back to where you want it
    4. Close the window
    5. Launch the program again

    This should fix your problem.

    Explanation:
Window sizing is on a per program (like internet explorer) basis:

The size of the last Internet Explorer window running on your computer that you close will be the size the new one that you open.

I will try this. It is only on IE. And it is only when I open a new window in IE from a link within another page. When I initially open IE it opens to a full page as usual. Again, I say it is only when I open a new page from a link in another page.

Thanks, if it’s just those, these are a few other steps:

    1. Open IE
    2. Click the same icon to launch a 2nd instance of IE
    3. In the second one, right click on a link and click on One in New Window
    4. Resize the new window by dragging the edges out, don’t click on maximize
    5. Close the very first window by selecting File>Close
    6. Close the window you just made full size, but do this by holding down CTRL on the keyboard and selecting file> close. Don’t let go of CTRL until that window is closed
    7. Close the last IE window by File>Close
    8. Reboot

This should take care of the problem. Let me know how it goes!
