How come my computer stopped working after I installed VLC?

by on July 3, 2011

Q: I tried to install vlc player on a slow gateway running windows xp, and it worked. However the next day when I tried to start the computer it started the windows loading screen but then pulled up a verifying files and folders screen, it said it was allocated okay and had no errors, but then it just goes to a black screen? Then I get an amber light on the monitor? Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing and the power button does nothing as well…

  1.

Hold down the power button until the computer totally turns off and reboot again.

If you’re still having trouble with it you’ve likely hit some kind of a hardware problem but this sounds very tricky to really diagnose without hands on the PC. If you can’t get anywhere with the computer after a few reboots have someone take a look at the PC.

Whatever the issue VLC wouldn’t have anything to do with that kind of a problem.
