How come my computer will not boot after upgrading from a dual core Pentium to a Core 2 Duo?

by on July 29, 2011

Q: I want to upgrade my xps400 from the 820d dual core Pentium to the e6700 core2duo. But when I installed it the computer wouldn’t boot and the power light was solid orange. I’ve updated my BIOS to version A07, the Intel website says it’s compatible with my mother board 945p chipset, and its lga775. What am I missing or doing wrong?

Here is the Intel website where it’s listed as compatible: http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/8764

Even if the chipset will support it, Dell probably never had the BIOS updated for that specific motherboard model to support and recognized processors that came out after the motherboard did. So you’re probably out of luck.
