How do I get rid of the Windows XP Repair that attached itself to my computer?

by on August 7, 2011

Q: How do I get rid of the Windows XP Repair that attached itself to my computer? All my files are there but I cannot get to them. They only way I can get on my computer is as a guest.

Is this something I can take care of myself or do I need to take it to a computer repair place? Can this be fixed.

Thank you.

Can you offer any more details on your situation? Any details on what caused this problem would be helpful.

I was checking my e-mails and a window popped up stating that Windows XP repair detected a virus on my computer and it did everything. My computer was scanned but then stated that in order to remove virus I had to pay.

This is some ugly scareware designed to take your computer hostage and get money out of you.

To remove it, try the following instructions: http://dfarq.homeip.net/2011/06/removing-the-windows-xp-repair-scareware/

Before I remove it from my computer, do I need to remove my documents, even though I can’t see them, from my computer onto a flashdrive?

You should always maintain a backup of your important files. If you have no backup of your important files make one now if possible and keep it up to date always.
