How come a speedtest says my connection can do 10Mbps but when I download items I can only download 1.5Mbps?

Q: Im Currently having problems with my internet and dont understand it. i do a speedtest on speedtest.net and i get the results back that i have 10Mbps download speed, and yet when i actually download something it dont even reach above 1.5Mpbs at max?

If this could be explained would be much appreciated thanks

    There is a difference between MBps (Megabits per sec) and Mbps (Megabytes per sec).

    10 megabits = 1.25 megabytes, so you’re looking at the same data, just in different units of measurement and you’re downloads are spot on.
