How come my computer keeps going into power saver mode and I cannot get it?

by on August 22, 2011

Q: I recently purchased a new DELL monitor. I am not sure if it is my monitor or my tower but now my computer is always shutting itself down into ‘power saver mode’ and nothing will wake it up. I have to turn it off, then turn it back on. It will do it sporadically, I may even be using it. I have gone in and shut down all my power saver options to NEVER shut down, or power save. What has happened? Do I have a virus?

“power saver mode” on the monitor usually means that the monitor isn’t getting a signal from the computer. Since you just replaced your monitor, make sure that the video cable connection is secure on both ends from the monitor to the computer.

If you’re still experiencing issues, try a different monitor to see if you still have the same problem. If using another monitor solves your problem, contact Dell for a replacement monitor.
