Q: Is it possible to change a smartphone to a non contract pay as you go? If so, how and what carrier, brand, and model do you recommend?

Every carrier should provide a pay as you go plan. If you already own a plan you can cancel your contract. However you may have to pay a cancellation fee which can get quite costly.

Once your plan is canceled you can switch to a pay as you go plan. Most phones are locked to their carrier so you cant just switch to another provider. However if your phone is unlocked you may be able to use it with more than one provider. Verizon and Sprint offer CDMA and ATT and TMobile offer GSM. There are also smaller carriers which you will have to check with.
