How come Outlook will not remove deleted items when I close Outlook?

by on August 24, 2011

Q: I recently reinstalled Outlook 2010. I have two e-mail accounts and the Outlook Data File. When I sen mail from one of the two accounts it also appears in the Outlook Data file Sent folder. For the same account, when I close Outlook (no matter the settings) the deleted items are not removed. Not a disaster but a very real nuisance. Help please.

For items that you want to remove try holding the shift key and press delete. This will delete email permanently. It may be that your deleted items folder is full.

If the problem persists and you cannot delete email I would try to re-install outlook.

If you are still having problems please let me know.

Thanks- actually this is the auto-delete function. I checked off empty the deleted items folder when exiting but only one of the accounts clears. In fact the whole install is odd. It appears I do not even have a single backup pst file. I am afraid if I reinstall Outlook I will lose a lot more.
