What is net framework all about and why did my computer tell me it was out of date?

Q: While trying to do a download the computer came back with “my net framework” was out of date so i want to microsoft.net and downloaded framework4 ….What is this all about?

    .NET Framework is a set of common software libraries that is used by many software programs. Programs on your computer may have a hard time running correctly with out of date .NET Frameworks installed.
