How come I cannot get my laptop to connect to my new wireless router after my previous wireless router stopped working?

Q: Hi, I was running my child’s netbook laptop off a belkin G plus router which recently stopped working. We have virgin media services which runs the desktop PC. When the belkin router stopped working I phoned Virgin and they said if I paid £24 a year I could have their wireless router which would work both the desktop and laptop. When the new virgin router arrived I tried for an hour with the virgin tech guy to connect the laptop,in the end he said the laptop network interference card needs updating/replacing – it was difficult to understand which one he meant.

But as the laptop was already working off another router I cant understand why it won’t work off the new one.

Do you think that’s correct?

  1.

Take the netbook to a local coffee shop or somewhere else with public wifi access and try to get it to connect. If it works fine, then you can call them back tell them that there isn’t anything wrong with your netbook.
