How would the infrastructure need to be setup for a multiplayer game on iOS?

by on October 1, 2011

Q: I am developer, albeit new to iOS development, and am looking to write a multiplayer app for the iPhone. I think i understand the concept of how it will all work, but just want to be sure. How i see it, every player will connect to a central server (I need to buy a web domain and server space for this correct?). This central server will also have code there where it will handle all the interactions between players and store player data. Is this somewhat close, or do I not have a clue what I am talking about? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That’s about right. It’s the same as if the game was running on a normal computer.

Note that you’re jumping into some pretty advanced stuff. If you haven’t done so already I’d suggest you make some simple non-internet apps first to get your feet wet.
