How come I cannot get on the internet with my HP Pavilion Entertainment PC after reloading it?

by on October 10, 2011

Q: I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6500 that was just recently reloaded, and now it is having internet connection issues. I type in my password for my wifi, and it says that I am connected to the internet, but when I go to open a web-page, it says that the page can not be loaded. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem and even tried calling customer support, but nothing has helped me so far. If anyone has any idea on how to correct this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried using different browsers to see if another one has access to the internet? I might suggest that first.

Another thing to check is in Internet explorer:
    1. go to Tools>Internet Options
    2. Click the connections tab in the next window.
    3. Click the LAN Settings button
    4. In the Local Area Network settings window verify that Proxy server is unchecked. If it is checked deselect it and click OK button and then again to close the windows.
    5. Test browsing the internet now.

If you are still having problems click the start button.
    -Then click run
-In the Run window type CMD and press enter.
-In the command window that pops up type the following command “ping http://www.google.com” (without the quotations)
-Then you should receive a response. If it says request timed out your computer may be having problems connecting to the WIFI.

Please let me know if you are still having problems.
