How come the screen remains black on my laptop that I dropped when I try to turn it on?

Q: Ok. So I’ve just dropped my sister’s laptop on the floor, from about 8 inches off the ground from my bed. And the screen went blank, but the computer remains on (the power button was still on) and it didn’t seem to switch off when I pressed the power button, so I took the battery off the back and tried to switch it back on (with the battery on) and the screen still remains blank. I already read a previous post about something similar and helped me understand what problems could have arose but wanted to know if there anyway of checking these things myself. And whether it’s worth repairs depending on the problem (also I’m pretty sure the warranty has run out).
The laptop’s spec is; Acer aspire 5338
Windows Vista
4GB DDR3 RAM
160GB HDD
Intel celeron PCU T3000 (1.8GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

  1.

You can take the laptop to a computer computer repair shop. Or you can attempt to repair the laptop yourself. It might be as simple as the monitor cable inside the laptop having come loose which of course would be a cheap easy fix.

If you’re not comfortable with this type of work, you can always take the laptop to a computer repair shop and ask for a price quote.
