How come my iPod Touch volume does not work after dropping it in the water?

by on November 8, 2011

Q: I dropped my iPod touch 3g in a sink full of water and then it stopped working. there was water under the screen, so i assumed that would have to dry the inside of it through the adapter port and headphone jack, so that night i sat it up over my heat vent. the next morning it worked, but now it can’t stay charged and the volume seems to be stuck on mute. when i try to turn up the volume up by button, it doesn’t work at all, but when i use the volume slider on the screen, it stays turned up for a split second, and then turns itself all the way down again. and if i try to hold the volume slider up, to keep it from sliding back down, the iPod turns off. I tried restoring it to it’s factory settings through iTunes, and that didn’t work. and I’ve had it for 3 years, so my warranty on it is expired. what do i do?

Unfortunately you’re pretty much out of luck. Consider buying a old used touch of Craigslist for a good deal.

Best practice for when a ipod/phone gets wet:
    1. Turn it off Immediately
    2. Put it in an airtight container full of uncooked rice for at least 48 hours.
    3. Cross your fingers.
