Should I be concerned about any parts in my laptop after dropping it even though it still appears to work fine?

Q: I just dropped my Dell inspiron laptop about 4 feet onto the carpet. I used it for a while after it dropped and everything works and looks fine, other than a small part chipped off. But I’m worried that there will be some issue with it in the future or that something might have moved inside of it. Is there any way to check if the hardware and everything else is working okay, or is there any professional place that could check?

You should always use your computer with the expectation that it will break with little to no notice. This means always keep more than one copy of important data (backups).

Consider something like http://www.crashplan.com to make automatic regular backups of your computer’s data.

If you want, you can take the laptop to a computer repair shop and pay them to take your computer apart and look for damage. However, that money would be better spent once there is actually a problem.
