How come I keep getting a blue screen with STOP: 0x80000004, (0x806EDAE1,0xA8DOEFCO, )x00000000)?

Q: I am running a Dell PC with WIN XP and am blue screen crashes with the following
STOP: 0x80000004, (0x806EDAE1,0xA8DOEFCO, )x00000000)

If there is activity on the computer everything runs “fine” but if I leave it unattended eventually it will hang up and I have to use the Off/On to shutdown.

Any thoughts/suggestions/ directionwould be appreciated.

BTW I am a retired old fart but still have my comprehension ability and am mechanically inclined.

Thanks

  1.

Thanks for providing the STOP message, could still you a few more bits of info to help.

    See this page: http://www.techrepublic.com/i/tr/downloads/images/bsod_a.jpg

And provide the info at the two red arrows. For the 2nd red arrow I’d just need the name of the file that had a problem. (In the example it’s ati3diag.dll)

Also, make note if the error messages are always the same, or if they are different.
