How come I get a message saying that the Windows XP system I am trying to put a Windows 7 image on is not prepared for Windows 7?

Q: Installing W7 on a work computer, it used to have XP on it. When I try to use the ghost image I get an error message “Computer not prepared for Windows 7” or something, it’s weird because we have hundreds of other computers here with the exact same specifications. Tried to reset the BIOS and still nothing.

What version of Ghost are you trying to use, and what is the exact error message?

We have hundreds of the same types of computers that I install on and they go smoothly but this one wont take it in. When I add the image I can see in the CMD box and it says “ImageX Tool for Microsoft” Version 6.1.7600.16385.

I tried it again and I managed to run the System Configuration Manager 2007 and I just get a message “Your computer is not supported to run Windows 7” yet this computer was made for Windows 7. Right now I’m gonna open it up and see if maybe some components are wrong.

I just noticed that I also get an error code when exiting, error code (0x8000FFFF)

Check for any parts that differ from the other machines. I’d suggest trying a different hard drive if you have one handy, as well as a different set of RAM.
