Microsoft has a nice guide on this:

You might need to check the manual for your router if you’re not sure how to turn on uPnP. Your router’s manual should be available at the manufacturer’s website.

i read through the guide, and when it says to set the ip as whatever my xbox 360s ip address is for dmz, are they talking about the source ip or the destination?

What is the make and model of your router?

It is a Cisco e1000, I also wanted to know if there is a better router for online gaming available

You should be fine with your current router.

Please flip your router over and look at the model info on the bottom.

It should state if you have hardware version 1.0, 2.0 or 2.1

Please let me know which one you have.

      i see a firmware version of 1.0

I took a glance at your manual. Before you do anything with the DMZ settings, make sure that uPnP is turned on for your router.

That should be on the Administration > Management screen

Manual for your router is here if you need it:

    my upnp is turned on

Great just wanted to make sure uPnP wasn’t enough to resolve your problem.

For the DMZ leave the Source Ip Address as Any. Enter the IP address of your xbox 360 in the destination box.

i set the destination to my xbox’s ip address, reset both my xbox and my router but i still have a moderate nat.

Unhook your router and plug your xbox directly into your cable modem. If you’re still getting a moderate nat then you’ll need to talk to your Internet Service Provider.

when i wire my xbox straight to my modem, it says open. but im hoping there is a way to fix my ruter settings so i dont have to bypass it everytime i go online

    Thanks for checking this information.

The only other thing I can suggest to try port forwarding instead of the DMZ settings.

Follow the port forwarding instructions from your router manual, and open the ports as noted on the xbox site:

note that if the above still doesn’t resolve your problem, I suggest having someone else verify your configuration.
