How come my computer has crashed a few times after installing a Radeon video card?

by on January 11, 2012

Q: i just bought a sapphire Radeon hd 6970 from new egg. Installed it and it works amazingly runs all my games on ultra settings. but sense iv installed it, iv had 3 random black screens where my computer compleatly freezes (i can tell because my G-15 keybored shows the computer frozen at the last CPU usage%). I’m using a Toshiba 46″ for a monitor and its connected with HDMI. this never happened with my old card. and i could still return the card for a new one (if its a faulty one) but after some search i read that it could be my power supply. I’m using a Corsair TX750w, could this be a problem? the reason im questioning returning it is because im building a whole new rig with the card in a month or so. the 3 times its crashed iv been using Google chrome is that means anything. im running it on windows 7
So, any ideas?

  1.

Make sure you’re running the latest Video Card Drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If you still have a problem after that, you might want to consider sending the card back for a replacement to see if that solves your problem.
