How can I get data off a laptop hard drive that is in a broken laptop?
by thatmelchick on January 13, 2012Q: I have an old laptop that will only start up as far as the ‘welcome’ screen. The keyboard wont work, so I can’t type in my password, and the mouse wont work either. I want to know if there is a way for me to access the contents of the hard drive in my broken laptop and dump them onto the hard drive of my current, working one. I can’t grant remote access from my broken laptop obviously, since the keyboard/mouse doesn’t work, but I really want the pictures off of the hard drive. If there’s anything you can tell me that might help, I’d really appreciate it!

You’ll need to remove the hard drive and connect it as a secondary drive to another compute to copy the files off the drive. If you’ve never done anything like this before I strongly suggest you consult with a local computer professional.
Also, in the future make sure to keep backups of your important photos!
