i never recieved a answer, for my computer will not boot, after i took out battery to clear a old cmos password, it cleared the password, but now i recieve a message that a system/config/file is missing. I have another computer running xp, is their a way for me to retrieve that file and somehow, put it back in to this acer computer i’m trying to work with.so that it will boot?, are can i make a xp boot diak off of my olther computer running xp, and then possible use that as a boot disk, any suggestions you have i would greatly appreciate. I really stuck, since it won’t let me boot under any or all the advance start up features even the advanced start up menu.

The comment you just posted is a lot more useful than your original post though so lets see what we can do from here.

The problem appears to have nothing to do with your cmos at all but with your install of Windows XP. I suggest reading windows\system32\config\system file missing or corrupt as that should give you the answers you need to get your system back up and running.
